The history of Okmetic

Okmetic is the seventh largest silicon wafer manufacturer in the world. The company was founded in 1985 as a result of a joint venture of Nokia and Outokumpu. Below you will find a list of the company's milestones.

2019  Fully in-house C-SOI ®  manufacturing in Vantaa plant, Finland

2017  Okmetic invests in downstream product technology  –  Construction work at the Vantaa plant started

2016  National Silicon Industry Group a new owner, Okmetic to delist from Helsinki Stock Exchange

2016  Sale of epitaxial plant in Allen Texas

2015  Capacity expansion for 200 mm silicon wafers and advanced SOI wafers

2012  Wafering line capacity extension

2011  Okmetic starts to increase its SOI capacity by extending the Vantaa plant

2009  Sensor business capacity expansion started

2007  Expansion of Vantaa plant in Finland

2006  Sales office Okmetic K.K. founded in Japan

2001  SOI wafer production line started

2000  Okmetic IPO on the Helsinki Stock Exchange

1999  Okmetic Inc. epitaxial wafer plant founded in Texas, USA

1997  Start of new crystal and wafer plant in Vantaa, Finland

1996  Epitaxial wafer production line started

1996  Export Award granted by the President of Finland

1994  Volume production of sensor wafers

1987  First crystal and wafer plant started in Espoo, Finland

1985  Foundation of Okmetic Oy, a joint venture of Nokia and Outokumpu
