Okmetic’s Science-Based Climate Targets Validated by the SBTi
We are pleased to announce that Okmetic’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), marking an important milestone in our sustainability journey.
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a corporate climate action organization that develops standards, tools, and guidance enabling companies and financial institutions to set greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets in line with climate science. Targets submitted to the SBTi are assessed through its validation services.
The validation confirms that our climate targets are aligned with the latest climate science and support global efforts to limit temperature rise in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement.
Our validated climate targets
As part of the validation process, the SBTi reviewed and approved Okmetic’s near-term emissions reduction targets:
Okmetic commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 90% by 2030 from a 2022 base year.
Okmetic also commits to reduce scope 3 GHG emissions 51.6% per kg of wafers sold within the same timeframe.
The validation builds on the significant progress we have already made in reducing our carbon footprint. We have achieved substantial reductions in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by increasing our use of renewable electricity. In 2025, carbon-neutral renewable hydropower accounted for 80% of the electricity we used.

The validated targets provide a clear direction for our continued efforts to reduce emissions across our operations and value chain,” says Okmetic’s CEO Kai Seikku.
While direct emissions from our operations remain a key focus area, we also recognize the importance of addressing emissions across our value chain. We will continue working closely with suppliers, partners, and other stakeholders to reduce Scope 3 emissions and drive sustainability improvements throughout the semiconductor value chain.
