Dr. Tzu-Yin Chiu appointed as NSIG’s President

On 27 April 2020, National Silicon Industry Group (NSIG) appointed Tzu-Yin Chiu as its new President. Dr. Chiu is to continue the good work of former President Li Xiazhong who will be focusing on the company’s business development.

Dr. Tzu-Yin Chiu started his career at AT&T Bell Laboratories over 35 years ago where he was the department head of High Speed Electronics Research Department and Silicon Research Operations Department. After that he served as Senior Director of Fab Operations at TSMC and as SVP of Shanghai Operations at SMIC’s infancy. He became the President and CEO of HHNEC in February 2009 and August 2011 he was appointed as the CEO of SMIC, the largest semi manufacturing company in China. Both HHNEC and SMIC, two largest China Silicon foundries, emerged from net loss to sustained profitability during his tenure. In May 2017, Dr. Chiu retired as SMIC CEO. He was appointed CEO of Zing Semiconductor Corporation in May 2019.

Dr. Chiu earned his BS at RPI, PhD at UC Berkeley and EMBA at Columbia. He holds 82 patents and has published over 30 articles. He has received the Shanghai Magnolia Award and been the Vice Council Chairman of China Semiconductor Industry Association, a board member of GSA, and a member of the Berkeley’s Engineering Advisory Board.
